With today being Restart a Heart Day 2024 we are so thrilled to announce that the Bridgewater Canal now has its very own defibrillator (AED)! This life-saving device is a direct result of the incredible generosity and unity of our local community.
At EZ Hampers, we’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed—whether through donations, spreading the word, or simply dropping spare change into the tip jar. You’ve made this possible, and we’re proud to be part of such a caring and proactive community. A special thank you goes out to the local businesses that were instrumental in supporting this project.
Where Can You Find the Defibrillator?
The AED will be conveniently installed on the wall between EZ Hampers and Kickback Coffee, making it available 24 hours a day, next to the AED is a life ring. We’re excited to share that the defibrillator will be officially unveiled by Trafford’s Mayor, Amy Whyte, on Saturday, October 19th at 1pm. We’d love for you to join us for the unveiling ceremony!
How Did We Make This Happen?
EZ Hampers set up a JustGiving page to raise funds, and the response from both local businesses and individuals was overwhelming. In addition, we placed a tip jar in the bar, which allowed people to donate their spare change. Every penny truly counted, and the support was nothing short of amazing.
Why does the Bridgewater Canal Need a Defibrillator?
AEDs have the potential to save the lives of cardiac arrest victims while rescuers wait for an ambulance to arrive. If defibrillation begins within 3-5 minutes of collapse, survival rates stand at around 50-70%. However, with each minute of delay, the chances of survival decrease by 10%. For this reason, it’s essential that the number of defibrillator locations increases so that members of the public have quick, easy access to them across the country.
Together, we’ve made a lasting difference and helped to ensure the safety of everyone in the area. Thank you for coming together to make this life-saving project a reality.
