It’s World Mental Health Day, the international day of raising awareness around mental health and well-being, as well as fighting the stigma surrounding mental health conditions. 

According to recent studies, 1 in 6 people in England report to experience symptoms for common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, and 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England. In addition to this, the amount of people with common mental health problems went up by 20% between 1993 to 2014, in both men and women. These statistics show just how important it is to seek help for mental health issues, and to practice self-care. 

 

What is self-care? 

Self-care is defined as: ‘The process of taking care of oneself with behaviours that promote health and active management of illness when it occurs.’ Much of self-care is varied and can come in a range of methods based on individual needs such as sleep, diet, exercise and personal care. 

Taking time out for yourself can look different for each individual. For one person, self-care may look like a session of yoga followed by meditation. For others, self-care may simply be keeping hydrated, getting enough sleep or just having a chat with a close friend. 

 

Our efforts

With the acknowledgement of World Mental Health Day, at EZ Hampers, we understand the importance of self-care, and taking a bit of time for yourself to relax. We promote a positive well-being in our company by having an open and understanding workplace environment, with a bottom-up management style to ensure all employees feel listened to and appreciated.At the weekly team meetings, we discuss the previous week’s work and triumphs, while also ensuring that we are addressing any issues someone may have experienced in the past week. A perk of working for EZ Hampers is that we get to test all of the self-care products we stock in our gift hampers, allowing each of our employees to have their own pamper days!

In addition to prioritising positive mental health in our workplace, we also strive to work with companies that care as much as we do. For example, Temple Spa work with the mental health charity Mind, donating proceeds from purchases of their beauty products to educate others and spread awareness of mental health issues.
