Natasha’s Law came into effect in 2021 after a young girl called Natasha Ednan-Laperouse sadly passed away due to a Pret-a-Manger sandwich not being labelled as having sesame seeds in it. Under food laws, businesses that work with food are legally required to inform customers if their products contain one of the top 14 allergens.
These 14 allergens are:
- Celery
- Cereals containing gluten
- Crustaceans
- Eggs
- Fish
- Lupin
- Milk
- Molluscs
- Mustard
- Tree Nuts (such as almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, brazil nuts, cashews, pecans, pistachios and macadamia nuts)
- Peanuts
- Sesame Seeds
- Soya
- Sulphur Dioxide/ Sulphites
