The menopausal journey can lead to many physical, emotional, and hormonal changes that present both challenges and opportunities for personal growth. Whilst there are commonly shared symptoms, experiences of the menopause greatly differ from person to person. World Menopause Month encourages everyone to educate ourselves and others on people’s experiences of the menopause and to support others going through the experience, whether in our personal lives or in the workplace. In this blog post, we will discuss what the menopause actually is, what support is available and our menopause coaching for one-to-one support and corporate training.

What is the Menopause?

The NHS states that the Menopause is “when your periods stop due to lower hormone levels. It usually affects women between the ages of 45 and 55, but it can happen earlier.” The menopause may happen naturally, but also may occur if an individual goes through surgeries such as a hysterectomy. It can cause a number of symptoms such as hot flushes, vaginal dryness, and anxiety or low mood.

Coping Strategies to practice during World Menopause Month 2023

Whilst the menopause can be a time of self-care and growth, many women struggle with unwanted symptoms. However, there are growing resources to help individuals as they navigate this significant life transition:

  • Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT): HRT involves being prescribed medication to alleviate some of the symptoms of the menopause. Many people opt for HRT, however others may choose not to use medication due to potential side-effects. Individuals should discuss with their healthcare provider whether HRT would be suitable for them.
  • Lifestyle Changes: Regularly exercising, maintaining a healthy, balanced diet and incorporating stress-relief activities into your everyday routine such as meditation or yoga have been shown to help manage menopausal symptoms.
  • Support Groups: Joining a menopausal support group will provide people going through similar difficulties to share their experiences, discuss tips and provide each other with support.
  • Menopause Coaching: Empowers individuals through professional one-to-one sessions, giving support and guidance on the menopause from a trained coach with personal experience.
