What is Easter?
Easter is a religious and cultural holiday celebration that takes place on the first Sunday after the first full moon that occurs on or after the Spring Equinox. The celebration marks the resurrection of Jesus after his crucifixion. Easter celebrated religiously through church services, but can also be celebrated secularly by the giving of chocolate Easter eggs. Real eggs are painted or decorated and given in the past as gifts. The first UK chocolate Easter egg was produced in 1873 by the chocolate company, Fry’s. However, chocolate Easter eggs were already popular throughout 18th Century France and Germany.
Did you know?: Eggs have become the symbol for Easter, as they represent renewal and rebirth. However, they also represent the empty tomb of Jesus, from which his body was resurrected.
