0The end of Ramadan is swiftly approaching, and it’s almost party season! Eid al-Fitr, or simply Eid, is one of the biggest holidays celebrated in Islam by Muslims across the globe. It’s known as the ‘festival of sweets’ as it marks the ending of the month-long fasting holiday of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitir lasts between one to three days, and is celebrated with prayer, a big feast, and the exchanging of gifts. Most importantly, charitable acts and donations take place, a tradition known as Zakat al-Fitr. This ensures that all Muslims, especially those in need, are able to still celebrate Eid. There are also many smaller traditions, such as breaking your fast with a date.
Gifts are often given to friends, family and loved ones on Eid, and are known as Eidi or Eidia.
